First We, Then We, Now I’m

Relationship/ Motion Design / Character design/ Illustration

Timeline: 3 weeks

Project Type: Motion Graphics

Role in the Project: Solo Project

Project Brief

The project was designed to refine my skills in motion design transitions, using storytelling as a foundation. Inspired by my observations and insights into intimate relationships, the video chronicles the lifecycle of intimacy. It begins with the spark of initial interest, moves through stages of closeness and falling in love, and navigates the complexities of excessive intimacy and ensuing conflicts. The narrative captures the loss of self in deep relationships, followed by a gradual drifting apart. Ultimately, the focus shifts back to self-awareness, emphasizing the reconnection with one’s identity.

Story

The narrative explores the cyclical nature of intimate relationships, illustrating how we repeatedly go through similar experiences throughout our lives. Each relationship serves as a loop, beginning with curiosity, evolving into intimacy, and eventually reaching a point of divergence. This cycle repeats itself, reflecting the complexities and dynamics inherent in human connections.

Style

In crafting the style frames for my project, I delved into the lush, vibrant palette that characterizes spring in nature—drawing on a spectrum of fresh greens, bright blossoms, and the soft pastels that herald the season’s renewal. To complement these lively hues, I incorporated textures reminiscent of vintage printing techniques. These textures, with their subtle imperfections and rich tactile quality, add depth and a touch of nostalgia to the visuals, creating a unique and engaging aesthetic. This combination of vivid colors and rustic textures not only enriches the visual experience but also bridges the gap between the natural beauty of spring and the timeless charm of old-world craftsmanship.
